You’ve come to the right place if you’re planning to hit the road for a summer road-trip with your nearest and dearest. Whether you’re looking to clear your head or just get away for the weekend, road trips are the best! The sun is out, there’s wind in your hair, your favourite people are around, and there’s loud music blaring on the speakers. Does it get any better? Road trips are a perfect example of how the journey is more important than the destination.
Okay it sounds incredible in theory. But to make sure that you really have a good summer road trip, you need to meticulously plan and pack for it. Unlike movies you can’t just throw in two t-shirts in a bag and jog to your car and drive off! We have a list of four must-have essentials to make your summer road trip epic!
Hygiene and medical supplies- First and foremost on the list, you have to have a first-aid kit on hand which should consist of essentials such as bandages for minor cuts and scrapes, gauze which is the medical jack-of-all-trades, pain-relief spray, antiseptic wipes, and lastly painkillers. Of course you could include extra elements if you want to be more careful or plan on having a longer trip. As the past couple years have indicated to us, you can never be too careful with hygiene especially in circumstances such as road trips so make sure to carry a hand sanitizer and face wipes. Last but very important, it’s a summer road trip so you absolutely have to carry sunblock.
Clothing items fit for summers- With the windows rolled down and the sun being its usual scorching self, you’ll want to be really careful with the kind of clothing items you choose to pack. We would recommend going with light, thin, cotton garments that fit you loosely. ‘Tis the season for half-sleeved cotton shirts and comfortable shorts and flip-flops. We would also recommend packing a pair of sunglasses and maybe a hat. Or even a scarf for when the sun gets a little too bright! But when all is said and done, what really matters is that you’re comfortable.
Gadgets and tech-supplies- Picture this. You’re out and about on the road. You’re driving through a thin road with lush green trees covering both sides of the road. And you want to keep this memory alive forever. What do you do? Yes! You take a picture! Cameras, whether they’re phone cameras or digital ones, are a road trip staple. How else will you capture all the beautiful memories you make with your close ones? Next, you’ll need music. A phone with a beautiful playlist filled with your and your friend’s favourite music should be a terrific addition to your road trip. You shouldn’t need much else apart from your mobile phones and USB cables to charge them from time to time.
Food and drinks- It’s summertime and you’ll need all the fuel you can get to keep having a good time. Besides, any trip is incomplete without snacks to munch on. What’s also really important here is to keep yourself hydrated all the time because you’re bound to lose a lot of fluids through sweat. You can keep yourself hydrated by ensuring that you carry lots of water bottles. To make hydrating fun you can carry cut-up fruits like watermelons or pineapples. Another wonderful, delicious way to hydrate is to have iced-teas that you can make on the go or carry in portable coolers. Sip on some fruit-flavoured, cold tea, and put your feet up and relax!
Bonus items that you can be sure no one else will think of but everyone will be grateful for are- a spare tire, cushions and blankets, earphones, a power bank, and a towel! Although you can do without a few of the items listed above, it always pays to be well-prepared. Even if you don’t use something, you know that you could. Now that all the planning and the packing is done, it’s time to let your hair down and enjoy!
