How to Prepare Traditional Matcha
- Sift 1–2 g (approximately ½–1 tsp) of matcha into a bowl.
- Add 60–70 ml of hot water at approximately 70–80°C.
- Whisk vigorously using a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) in quick W-shaped movements.
- Continue until the matcha is smooth with a fine layer of froth.
- Enjoy immediately.
Avoid boiling water, as excessively high temperatures can make matcha taste bitter.
How to Make a Matcha Latte
- Whisk 1–2 g of matcha with 30–50 ml of warm water until smooth.
- Add your choice of warm or chilled milk.
- Sweeten to taste if desired.
- Stir or whisk gently and serve.
How to Make Iced Matcha

Questions & Answers
1. How can I make matcha without the bamboo whisk?
A. Matcha can be best enjoyed if it has a smooth frothy texture. You can use a milk frother or hand blender to create the froth. If you do not have these equipments, you can use a shaker or alternatively whisk the matcha in a bowl continuously with a fork till it reaches a smooth consistency.
